A new epistolary culture arose as part of this process. As the printed word emerged as the main medium shaping cultural knowledge, exchange of letters became a way of life. He spearheaded the idea of individuality and dynamicized the understanding of political order and common weal. Did the Franco-Germanic context produce a lasting pattern that shaped mindsets and modes of behaviour? The analytical focus will be centred on a range of journalistic media after 1789. The chosen examples show how a sound theoretical foundation can uncover basic positions which enable an exploration of the variety and permanence of cosmopolitan formations. \/ Il s\u2019agit de se demander si le cosmopolitisme, tel qu\u2019il a pu \u00eatre d\u00e9fini et mis en pratique a la fin du XVIIIe si\u00e8cle, s\u2019est impos\u00e9 comme un mod\u00e8le culturel (\u203aKulturmuster\u2039) qui a d\u00e9termin\u00e9 mentalit\u00e9s et comportements dans un contexte franco-allemand.
