S. 11-27 S. 11-27 <div><div class=\"spoiler-wrap\"><div class=\"spoiler-head no-icon  collapsed\" title=\"Expand\">Abstract<\/div><div class=\"spoiler-body\" style=\"display: none;\"> For the majority of the nineteenth century and during the first half of the twentieth century, the concept of a \u203aCatholic Enlightenment\u2039 was regarded as a contradiction in terms with no relation to historical reality. From the 1960s, however, perspectives began to shift and Catholic variants of Enlightenment ideals became accepted as eighteenth-century phenomena in their own right. This article reviews the historiography of the Catholic Enlightenment and argues that more research on this topic should be carried out from a global perspective, with a particular focus on North America. \/ Dans l\u2019historiographie du XIXe si\u00e8cle et de la premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 du XXe si\u00e8cle, le concept des \u203aLumi\u00e8res ca\u00adtholiques\u2039 est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme un paradoxe, sans aucun rapport avec la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 historique. S. 28-45 <div><div class=\"spoiler-wrap\"><div class=\"spoiler-head no-icon  collapsed\" title=\"Expand\">Abstract<\/div><div class=\"spoiler-body\" style=\"display: none;\"> In June 1777, Jakob Mauvillon anonymously published an essay on the Genius of Socrates in the journal Deutsches Museum, which, because of the provocative ideas, caused a great sensation and generated quick responses and opposition, such as from the theologian Gottfried Le\u00df, the historian Johann Georg Schlosser, and the philosopher Michael Hi\u00dfmann. A previously unknown letter from Mauvillon to Hi\u00dfmann, located in the National Archives in Sibiu, Romania, which will be analyzed here for the first time, reveals the intention that Mauvillon may have pursued by publishing this essay. \/ En juin 1777, Jakob Mauvillon publie anonymement dans la revue Deutsches Museum un essai sur le G\u00e9nie de Socrate qui, en raison de ses th\u00e8ses provocatrices, fait sensation et suscite diverses r\u00e9pliques et contestations de la part de certains penseurs tels que le th\u00e9ologien Gottfried Le\u00df, l\u2019historien Johann Georg Schlosser et le philosophe Michael Hi\u00dfmann.
