Abstract<\/div>
Friedrich Schiller, one of the leading eighteenth-century German poets, historians, and playwrights, was highly interested in the fortunes of the United States throughout his life. Time and again, he commented on the promising prospects of the union of American republics that had come into being in 1776. Through tracing all of the refined judgements Schiller made about the USA, from his earliest poem to his theatre plays in his period of literary maturity, his hitherto overlooked fascination for this new American Confederation becomes clear. \/ Tout au long de sa vie, Friedrich Schiller \u2013 grand po\u00e8te, dramaturge et historien du XVIIIe si\u00e8cle \u2013 s\u2019est profond\u00e9ment int\u00e9ress\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019avenir des \u00c9tats-Unis. Il n\u2019eut de cesse de partager ses commentaires sur les perspectives prometteuses de l\u2019Union des R\u00e9publiques am\u00e9ricaines qui avait vu le jour en 1776.
