Time and again, he commented on the promising prospects of the union of American republics that had come into being in 1776. Through tracing all of the refined judgements Schiller made about the USA, from his earliest poem to his theatre plays in his period of literary maturity, his hitherto overlooked fascination for this new American Confederation becomes clear. \/ Tout au long de sa vie, Friedrich Schiller \u2013 grand po\u00e8te, dramaturge et historien du XVIIIe si\u00e8cle \u2013 s\u2019est profond\u00e9ment int\u00e9ress\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019avenir des \u00c9tats-Unis. This article examines the techniques of appropriation and aemulatio using as examples the practices of Gottsched in Leipzig and the Zurich-based Bodmer and Breitinger, whose aesthetic and poetological differences have traditionally been strongly emphasised in research, partly because of their bitterly-fought scholarly dispute. Here, on the other hand, the limits of the common ground based on the canon of readings and preferences in taste and style are to be illuminated in order to be able to assess more precisely where there may have been irreconcilable divisions. \/ Il est connu que les \u00e9crivains germanophones des Lumi\u00e8res se sont largement inspir\u00e9s de textes fran\u00e7ais et italiens.
